Thinking Out Loud (Answers) Part two of a two part series

(Channeled) Spirituality is about everyday life, which includes getting up in the morning, getting ready for the day be it work, school or play. It is about knowing yourself and the connection to your environment. It is about defining who you are and then living a purposeful life within those definitions, it is about changing those definitions and making adjustments to accommodate them. It is about saying to the world "I AM," and demonstrating it within the physical body that you created.

All of life is a thought process that is demonstrated by your physical actions. All of humanity is spiritual and it demonstrates it not only one day a week, but in every waking and sleeping moment of every day.

True spirituality has common bonds with all spirit but is demonstrated individually and it is not necessary to find it, but to become a student of self and know that you are already there. A good student studies itself and how it reacts to its environment and other living things. In its individual life time it will eliminate all things that do not work for it, considering how it sees itself in relationship to it's environment and others.

It constantly creates new situations in physical life that brings opportunity for growth within the limitations and physical abilities that it placed upon itself before birth. The spirit knows that its path along the evolutionary trail is marked by the physical signs it leaves behind. The spirit also knows that these signs demonstrate to others a clear path that it is taking, nothing is hidden.

Do not mould yourself in another's image, but remain uniquely yourself. Spirit always strives to improve itself physically in its own awareness and to demonstrate it, always moving to higher levels of enlightenment and perfection. Spirit always knows it is perfect as it is, and that every step along the way brings it closer. It is aware that all other spirits are perfect the way they are and all that they do is appropriate considering what it is that they wish to experience in the physical life, it never judges.

The spirit knows it is not here to learn but to simply experience the physical life with the body that it has chosen. There is no purpose to life other than the purpose that you consciously give it. You are not here to do anything; there are no requirements and qualifications. How you choose to experience your life is known only two you and the others that you bring into your life by prior agreement. All of life is purposeful and cannot be judged, thus there are not retributions or rewards. Judgments are human attributes and have no meaning outside the physical world. While you are in this world you will be judged by mankind. Know that the soul cannot be killed or harmed and the body is expendable. There is no such thing as a wasted or lost soul, which is also another human religious concept. All things in your world are appropriate in the time of their existence and all life is relevant.

Know this also that each individual ego is not at the same level of understanding and awareness, but the first run on the ladder is just as important as the eighth. No step is more important than the other. Your trip is never ending and therefore all steps lead to another and are equal. The life of the street person is just as valid as the saints and every saint will be a street person and visa versa. You are all starting over with each new step that you take, so judge not the path chosen by another.

No one can ever say that they are enlightened, but only moving to enlightenment. The soul is in a constant state of flux as is all of life, here and in any other plain of existence. You can never get to the place that you desire, because you are always recreating it with the very next step that you take. Life is cyclical and the head always chases the tail. To be spiritual has no meaning because you can not get there, you are spirit by nature and you cannot be what you already are.

In terms of the relative world that you are now living in, knowing these things will make the perceived struggle that you are now experiencing less stressful, because you will understand that you are creating it and that you have to power to change it at will, in a heart beat with a simple change of thought.

With awareness comes power and maturity to handle that power, you are powerless only if you know that you are. When you make the connection between what you think you are and what you know yourself to be, you will increase your access to unlimited power that you already possess. When you understand the power of your thoughts you will experience that power, and to know unlimited power you must know yourself as that power, you must know yourself as God. You must know that you are connected to all that "is" and is "not." You must know that there is no one else and therefore God and you are one. Only then will you have gone full circle, and only then will you have experienced the full meaning of life.

Money Does Talk!

When buying something, you can buy in one of two markets. The first is buying on terms in the retail market and the second is buying in the wholesale cash market. This can be illustrated by referring to the biggest purchase we all make in our lifetime - Real Estate.

In recent years, when you are buying a house it is easy to get financing of the first mortgage, so the seller is not forced to finance the whole sale. What I mean is the seller doesn't become your first mortgage holder, the bank lends the money and the seller get the cash. Moreover, he will most likely make some concessions if he doesn't have to carry back a second trust deed.

Therefore giving the seller all cash, will usually get you a better deal than asking the seller to let you buy the house with a very low down payment, with him carrying back a sizable trust deed. The big savings come when you are buying real estate that doesn't have easy institutional financing available. The purchase of vacant land can be the best example.

My father was interested in buying industrial lots in the city of Montebello, just east of downtown Los Angeles. This was during the 1960's. In those days it was common for a buyer to put down 20% and the seller to finance the remaining 80% for 10 years at 8% interest. For example: a $10,000 lot would cost you $2,000 down with $97.06 payments every month. After 10 years the total of the principal and interest payments would be $13,647.45. If you wanted to build on the property you had to pay off the land loan, first. The sellers then would not have to wait the whole 10 years before getting all their money.

Many property owners sold their property because they wanted money and getting the $2,000 wasn't much money to them. So, my father would offer $5,000 all cash to the sellers. More than 1 out of 5 would take the cash up front instead of waiting for payments over 10 years. By offering the extra $3,000 cash down, my father saved $8,647.45 on the sale ($5,000 on the price reduction, plus the interest on the note). Now that is buying wholesale!!

Buying cars can be done the same way. When you pay retail, the dealer talks monthly payments. If he lowers the price, he'll raise the interest rate. When you are buying for cash, he can only talk price. When you are leasing an automobile, they don't even tell you the price!

The major consideration in leasing a car or not, is made by the leasing company to be all about what the monthly payment is going to be and how much extra it is going to cost you when you drive over 12,000 miles per year. Ever financed a used car from a "no credit check" dealer? He gets you for 36% interest on the balance you borrow, after getting a 50% down payment from you. Then if you miss a payment he takes the car and sues you for the difference. Buy what you can afford in cash and save making the lenders rich.

I read a report once that said that the average man makes $1,500,000 over his lifetime. Of that amount, he uses $600,000 to pay the interest on his purchases. Let's look at the purchase of a home, from a slightly different point of view. A man who makes $1,500,000 in a lifetime will be earning on average about $30,000 a year or $2,500 per month.

He can afford to spend 40% of his income on rent or a mortgage payment. This means that he can afford a $150,000 house. If he can qualify for a 90% loan he would owe $135,000 at 8% amortized over 30 years. That means he pays $221,609.58 interest plus the $150,000 principal to buy this one house and pay it off over 30 years. The interest alone is almost 15% of his lifetime earnings! Buying anything on credit can cost you more than the retail price because you must add the interest to the cost of the item.

My suggestion. Buy for cash and negotiate for the best price you can get. If you must borrow, pay it off in as short a time possible. Also, never borrow for personal consumption. Postpone the purchase long enough to pay cash. If you can't afford to wait until you save the money, you shouldn't buy the item. It is just too expensive. To buy on payments raises the cost even higher than the cash price, so it becomes even more expensive. So if you cannot afford the cash price, you definitely cannot afford the financed price. My suggestion is to pay cash and buy wholesale. BUY THE BEST, PAY CASH

Managers, Have You Been Shortchanged?

You have been if you're a business, non-profit or association manager whose public relations budget is focused largely on nifty brochures, column mentions and broadcast plugs. Especially without a workable plan that helps you persuade your most important outside stakeholders to your way of thinking, then moves them to take actions that lead to the success of your department, division or subsidiary.

A plan, say, like this one: people act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving- to-desired-action the very people whose behaviors affect the organization the most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

Managers like yourself can win big when you base your public relations planning on this kind of blueprint, one that demands of you a sharper focus on the very groups of outside people who play a major role in just how successful a manager you will be ? your key external audiences.

The payoff can take many forms: repeat purchases, a big bounce in showroom visits, increases in capital gifts, new waves of prospects, a large boost in membership applications, and even new inquiries about strategic alliances or joint ventures.

More important, as you move the emphasis of the public relations people assigned to your unit from communications tactics to the blueprint outlined above, YOU move closer to personal success as that unit manager.

Take control of the PR folks assigned to your unit and insure that every last one of them understands why it's so crucial to know how your operation is perceived by your key target audiences. Be certain that they accept the reality that those perceptions almost always end up as predictable behaviors that, left unattended, can raise cane with your operation.

Discuss how your PR team will undertake a perception monitoring session and question members of your key target audience: have you had prior contact with us? Was it satisfactory? How much do you know about our services or products and people? Have you encountered problems with our organization?

While you can always hire survey specialists to round up these data for you, remember that your very own PR team is already in the perception and behavior game and should be of use for this project.

No matter who handles the perception monitoring drill with members of your target audience, you/they must remain alert for false assumptions, unfounded rumors, inaccuracies, misconceptions and untruths.

The reason for this caution is that the perception information you gather helps you establish your public relations goal. Examples might include, spike that rumor, correct the false assumption, or clarify the misconception.

But how do you go about achieving that goal? You pick the right strategy from the three choices available to you. Change existing perception, create perception where there may be none, or reinforce it. Be certain, however, that the strategy you choose is an obvious fit with your new public relations goal.

Now, what will you say to members of your key target audience to help persuade those with the offending perception to your way of thinking? Select your PR team's best writer because you must prepare a very special, corrective message. One that is not only compelling and believable, but very clear, based on solid facts and persuasive if it is to shift perception/opinion towards your point of view and lead to the behaviors you have in mind.

The next step, luckily, is easy. You must select communications tactics to carry your message to the attention of your target audience. Insuring that the tactics you select have a record of reaching folks like the members of your target audience, you can pick from dozens that are available to you. From consumer briefings, media interviews, newsletters and personal meetings to speeches, facility tours, emails, brochures and many others.

Keeping in mind that the method of communication can often affect the credibility of the message, you may wish to deliver it during a meeting, a presentation or other small getogethers rather than in a higher-profile press release.

Soon, you will want to demonstrate that your new public relations effort is making progress. And that means a second perception monitoring session with members of your target audience. Using many of the same questions as in your first benchmark session, you will now be on alert for signs that the offending perception is being altered in your direction.

Fortunately, you can always move things along by adding more communications tactics as well as increasing their frequencies.

You will not be shortchanged ? nor feel shortchanged ? when you sharpen your focus on the very groups of outside people who play a major role in just how successful a manager you will be ? your key external stakeholders.

Especially when you use a workable plan that helps you persuade those important outside stakeholders to your way of thinking, then moves them to take actions that lead to the success of your department, division or subsidiary.

Gaining a Child?s Trust

My daughters and I went to the beach several weeks ago. They were having a blast playing in the freezing cold water as I tiptoed around the waves, trying to keep my feet from becoming frost bitten. Next to us in the water was a mother with her daughter who was no more than 18 months old. This woman was holding her frightened little girl hostage in the ocean as the bitter cold waves crashed into her and rushed back with a fierce undertow. The poor child was screaming and crying, begging to be rescued from the torture. Her mother thought this was amusing. She laughed at her baby's fear and grinned at everyone around her. I was disgusted and horrified. I finally told the mother that I didn't find the situation at all funny. I have no idea if my words had any impact. By then, my own kids had finally remembered they had nerve endings and were shivering uncontrollably, begging for the warmth of their dry towels and warm sweatshirts. We left the water's edge and the sickening site of mother traumatizing baby.

Did this mother realize she was probably investing her daughter with an irrational fear of the ocean? I doubt it.

When I see a parent forcing a child to tolerate something potentially fear inducing, it curdles my blood. This child was traumatized and her mother was not helping her escape the offensive waves. She was the cause of her child's trauma. Where is the trust in this relationship? Will this little girl grow up believing that her mother will always be there for her or resent her mom for belittling her sensitivities? I think the latter.

I dread thinking about all the ways this child will, in turn, torture her mother without realizing why. Will she try drugs or alcohol at an early age? Will she indulge in promiscuous sexual behavior at an inappropriate time? Will she be so anesthetized to her self-worth that she drives her first car into a wall at 18? Could be.

In my opinion, this mother is treating her baby with disrespect at the most basic level. Instinctual fear is not something we should laugh at our toddler for having, thereby teaching her that her feelings and natural fear of big looming ice cold waves or any other potentially frightening fact of life is dismissed as meaningless. To this child, Mom is saying her whole existence is disdained, her feelings don't matter and her mother is not there to protect her but to throw her into the pits of hell for her own amusement.

I've seen this happen at amusement parks, playgrounds and schools. No matter what your child is afraid of, respect his fear, acknowledge his trepidation of the unknown and understand that with compassion and tolerance, he will overcome these basic, natural fears with time and maturity. Some children are more sensitive than others. You might have a child who embraces adventure and roller coasters with passion or a child who is horrified by a small slide at the park. This is your baby. No matter what you think they should be feeling, they have their own wiring. They're going to move at their own internal pace. Let's respect and honor that pace which in turn shows our child that we respect and honor him. This sets a healthy foundation for self-esteem and self-respect, which is so very important for our children to function at their best in the world.
